May 3rd 2025, Ugress returns to Bergen with the sci-fi universe “Retrotopia” in an exclusive release concert at Røkeriet USF. Tickets in sale now.
This will be the release concert for “Retrotopia – Director’s Cut”. The album and concert is an expanded vision of the production that premiered to a sold-out crowd at Parkteatret in Oslo late 2024, offering a spectacular journey through an interactive multiverse of historical visions of the future.
From early pulp sci-fi, through the psychedelic plastic dreams of the 1960s, to the VR-anxieties of the 1990s and today’s solarpunk visions, “Retrotopia” explores how memories, media, and technology shape our endless pursuit of the “right” future. Through speculative stories, science-fiction-inspired music videos, and interactive technology, Ugress creates an immersive audiovisual universe that challenges the audience’s perception of time and reality.
On stage, Ugress is joined by guest artists, including longtime collaborator Nasra Ali Omar on drums and percussion. Additional musicians and production elements will be announced continuously.
About Ugress
Ugress is the musical media art project of Bergen-based artist Gisle Martens Meyer. Through concerts, tours, and award-winning works for major institutions such as the Bergen International Festival, Meta.Morf Biennale, and TIFF, Ugress has established itself as a unique voice in electronic music and media art. Theartist has released several gold-selling albums and is widely used in films, TV shows, and games.
Ugress has previously performed at USF with several commissioned works and silent film productions, but “Retrotopia”marks a new dimension in the artist’s exploration of fantastical, dystopian, and alternative realities.
