About GMM
by GMM on January 1st 2005, at 01:00 CET

Hello!

I am a composer, musician, artist, mad professor, failed evil genius, whimsical label mogul... only my expert skills in procrastinating is keeping me from total world domination.

Maybe you heard some of my music in a film or commercial or TV program, and you had no idea - my work is often licensed to accompany moving images.  Or I am hired to write directly to picture.

As an artist my main project is Ugress which is the site you are watching right now. I run my own label Uncanny Planet, a place for all of my projects and ideas to be realized. You can check out my projects right here on this website. I also have a separate professional website geared towards my composer career at gislemartensmeyer.com.

I am a child of the 80ies, I started out making music on the Commodore 64, and continued up along the typical tracker route of C64, Amiga, PC and then Mac sequencers. I had a breakthru with the Ugress debut album "Resound" in 2002. When I'm not touring or lost in the woods I am located in Bergen, Norway where I spend my time in the Uncanny Laboratory studio. Which is really just a laptop.

I write a lot of different music, but if there is a core I would like to describe it as cinematic sci-fi electronica.

I find the current paradigm shift in music exceptionally interesting, I was a outspoken opponent of DRM. I am very intrigued by sampling and all of its cultural aspects - since deep down everything is sampling - and I have an uncanny faith in technology and the possibilties within. Teh future! I am not fond of piracy, but I have a realistic sense, I see how the world works and why it happens. I am dedicated to working WITH technology, not against it, finding a model that works for everyone and makes piracy irrelevant and unnecessary.

You can read a list of software and a list of hardware I use. For further information I suggest looking at my heroes category to learn about my inspirations, see the laboratory category for continuously project progress, or navigate by tags for a top down approach. There is also a FAQ. If you need to get in touch, that is very easy.

Thanks Michael I sent you an email. And excuse my horrible blog system I don't think these comments belong to this post, but rather the Leopard one, here

I gotta sort that out some day

You sir, are the proud owner, I'm sure, of the quite simply most atsonishingly brilliant, flabbergastingly bright, and utterly superior mind of the post-modernistic era. May you prosper and find recognition wherever you may seek.

Oh... and you make kickass music too.

Thank you for being the excellent being that you are, you rock Basshunter!

...hehehe, just kidding Gisle. Gleder meg til det nye albumet, lover å KJØPE det:). Hilsen fra Vestby

It's been a long time ago... wow, glad to see new Ugress stuff out there. Holy shit, I think I've deleted my pay-pal account already, and Amazon.de knows nothing about the album. Hilsen fra Lübeck!

P.S. is there still a chance to obtain "Resound" as CD? There is someone to whom I'd love to give the original, and I won't give away the one I own ;)

aljen: Resound is still available directly from here. See this for more information: http://gmm.ugress.com/post.asp?id=488

It also seems to be on Amazon.de; in what condition, I don't know - I'm not that good in German.

sysrq868: thank you for the info, I'll check it up later this afternoon. Our company's firewall does not allow such links, don't ask me why.

According to amazon.de, they all are selling used stuff, which is the 2nd choice in this case - the album is supposed to be a birthday gift, and I would prefer to give out some virgin untouched pretty stuff. The guy to whom it goes tried to buy Resound 2006 during our visit in Bergen, but we failed. After all, we luckily got one of the "numerous" sunny days in Bergen...

Hi Aljen, regarding Resound: There are several purchase options; you can buy directly from ugress.com (you do not need a paypal account, only a credit card). you can also buy new CDs from amazon.com, just search for ugress. you can probably also have a store import it for you, I have changed distributors and the CD should be available in import

Just found your music by accident when I was surfing in search of a type of music that would fit a video/trailer I was planning to do. Anyway I found your site and downloaded the samples you have there and I couldn't be happier.
Thanks for making great music!

You'll find the video on youtube and if you want me to remove it then just say the word.
